HAPPY VETERANS DAY and thanks to all the veterans in our midst for their contribution in service to our country.  We also thank the families of our veterans for their dedication to the cause of freedom and the sacrifices they made as their loved one served.

Two weeks from today we will be enjoying our Thanksgiving dinners with family and friends.  November seems to be flying by as the days grow shorter with the time change.  The Sunday after Thanksgiving starts the season of Advent.   During Advent we will NOT have the Wednesday morning Bible Conversation or Prayer Shawl gatherings or Morning Prayer.  Instead, we will have Wednesday evening Potluck suppers with special events each of the four Wednesdays of Advent.  Here is the schedule:

  • Dec 1      Potluck at 6 pm in Church House; Contemplative Prayer with Susan Pullin at 7:00 pm in the church
  • Dec 8      Bonfire at 6 pm with hot dogs and caroling—bring a chair. Hot dogs provided by the church- bring finger food to add to the meal
  • Dec 15    Potluck at 6 pm in Church House—greening of the church
  • Dec 22   Formal dinner (catered) in the Church 6 pm (RSVP, please, on the sign-up sheet on the organ)

What a treat to have The Rev. Philene Ware Dunn and her husband Paul with us last Sunday.  We celebrated the baptism of Hannah Parker and we have some wonderful pictures that Lisa Treichel took of the baptism which I will ask Pattie to send to everyone.  Watch for that email.

We hope to get your donation to the Christmas Project this Sunday so that the Mission and Outreach Committee can have time to buy anything else needed for the gift bags they are fixing for children and adults.  If you have any blankets that are clean and in good condition they are also needed.

Lisa Treichel will be giving the message this Sunday.  Pam will lead the music.  Pattie will be the lector and Susan L will intercess for us.  The readings are Psalm 16 (BCP  p. 599); 1 Samuel 1:4-20; Hebrews 10:11-14 and Mark 13:1-8.

November is the time when our thoughts turn to the stewardship of our treasure.  Pledge cards will be received and blessed November 28 which, in the Church calendar, is the last Sunday after Pentecost.  It is the first Sunday of the new church year.  If you are unable to attend worship that day you may leave your pledge card on the organ this week or mail it to the church in the envelope provided in the stewardship packet.

A reminder that our Senior Warden, Susan Lee, has announced that the entire area of the parking lot facing the back of the church (where two handicap signs are posted) is reserved for people with special parking needs.  We will post additional signs in the near future.
