Anyone who would like to participate in the retreat at Holy Cross Monastery in New York November 16-18 must register by Sunday, August 29. If you want to attend or need more information, call Kurt at 617-962-6220. Remember, registration closes this coming Sunday. Several people from CCL attended last year and they returned home with glowing reports of their time at Holy Cross Monastery.
Our calendar will show 8-28-21 on Saturday and, thanks to Pattie who celebrates her birthday on that date along with her daughter, Lisa, and her brother and who has claimed that verse from Romans as her own, I want to share with you what I learned as I listened to a meditation on that verse this morning. Here’s the verse: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Here are some takeaway points for us to consider: First, the opening three words, “And we know.” It doesn’t say we think, we suppose, we question…it says we know! Second, “in all things” means ALL, not a little bit, not a select few, but in all things God is a part of our lives. What does God want from us in return for what He is giving us? He wants our love. He wants more than our knowledge of Him. He wants us to love Him and receive His plan for our lives.
It was nice to have Rev. Georgia DuBose with us last Sunday. I just received an email from her that she has gotten a call to serve a church as an interim minister pending vestry approval. Perhaps we will have another opportunity in the future for her to be with us.
Dave will be leading worship this Sunday. We look forward to his message and Pam’s music. Janet is our lector and Paul will do the prayers. The readings are Psalm 84 (BCP p 707); 1 Kings 8: 1-6, 10-11, 22-30, 41-43; Ephesians 6 :10-20 and John 6:56-69.
I apologize that Zoom did not work last Sunday. My lack of technology was apparent. It seems we had 2 meetings going at the same time and I didn’t know how to fix the problem. My solution was to just close the lid on the laptop and start the in-person service. The good news is that Dave will be here this week and can get us back on Zoom. Yeah!
