Maundy Thursday

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17TH

6:00 P.M. - 6:45 P.M. - AGAPE MEAL

Agapé Meals or “Love Feasts” are simple communal meals and services that are intended to promote fellowship, unity, and Christian love. Love (agapé) feasts originated in the first century among early Christians and are similar to the more widely known Lord's Supper, or Eucharist. The ceremony utilizes the love feast as a memorial of the death of Christ and may include foot washing as a sign of Jesus's humility and servitude.

7:00 P.M. - SOLEMN EUCHARIST OF THE INSTITUTION (INCLUDING FOOT-WASHING)

The watch is kept before the Blessed Sacrament at the Altar of Repose from the end of this liturgy until three o’clock Good Friday afternoon. Toward the end of the Good Friday Liturgy, which begins at noon, the Blessed Sacrament is brought back to the High Altar for the Administration of Holy Communion.
