Reflection
Last Sunday I spoke about an approach to life: doing so 'as a child,' or as our Buddhist friends call it with 'Beginner's Mind.' I must say I have received more comment about that Message than maybe any other message I have given at Christ Church. It seems I may have struck a chord as we all continue to fight the battle of a busy world, with complexities everywhere, forcing us to consider almost on a daily basis how we are to live.
I'm hoping you saw that this was a continuation of my Message from two weeks ago when Jesus tells Nicodemus he must be 'born anew.' These two things are very connected, and in my mind, to some extent summarize the Jesus message about The Way, meaning the way he asks us to live. With an open mind and heart and few preconceived notions.
As I said about the five major faiths I have studied - Christianity, Judaism, Taoism, Buddhism and now Hinduism, they all stress these simple principles. They also stress the importance of living into the present moment. We can't predict the future, do anything about the past, but can live in this moment. I think this continuation of our understanding of a simple way, can offer us real value as we negotiate life especially if we put them all together:
Being in a new way--life anew
Seeing in a new way--as a child
Living in a new way--this moment
More on the present moment in sermons to come.
See you Sunday,
