We know it is difficult to do things in person but here is an email from our friends at Faith Chapel about the April food pantry.  Please help if you can.  All volunteering should be coordinated through Gary (number in the email).  Note:  this is a long email but we think it is important to send the whole thing so CCLers can find ways to help.

Friends:

The Covid-19 pandemic creates special challenges for our food pantry in April and May – and probably June. We expect demand to be up, while we are limited in volunteers (due to Social Distancing) and shopping in large quantities is difficult. We have significantly changed our food pantry processes with advice from Loudoun Hunger Relief and others sources. Below is an overview of the new process, as well as a request for food donations and volunteers. We will take prudent precautions to protect the safety of our volunteers and our shoppers, but we simply cannot imagine cancelling the food pantry while the need is so high.

We will not be using Sign-Up Genius this month, if you are able to volunteer please contact me by reply email. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Volunteer/Donation Needs
Donation Needs: Loudoun Hunger is going to provide milk, eggs and meat. We are expecting 60 families at our April 11th Food Pantry. We know that shopping in large quantities is difficult now, so we’re asking the community to buy for others when shopping for themselves and donate what they can. We need these donations delivered to the church by 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday 4/8.
We do have funds available for those who need reimbursement for what they buy, please check with Gary (703-608-8616) before you go shopping.

We’ll need donations from the community of non-perishable food items including:
Produce – Veggies & Fruit
Canned Veggies & Fruit
Cooking Oil
Canned Chicken & Tuna
Peanut Butter & Jelly
Black Beans (bags preferred, cans okay)
Rice
Pasta & Pasta Sauce
Cereal & Oatmeal
Snack Foods

Volunteer Needs
We will need teams of volunteers (a) for bag-packing on April 8-10 and (b) to put the packed bags in the cars on April 11. We would like each team to be a family unit. We will work to keep the teams separated from each other (i.e. Social Distancing). Specifically, we need:

Food Pick-Up
a. We will need two family teams on Wednesday 4/8 from 2:00 – 6:00 to sort the donated food and place it in the appropriate church room for bag-packing.
i. Please respond by reply email if you can do this.
Set-Up (Bag Packing)
a. We will need 4 family teams (one team per room) between 6:00 p.m. Wednesday (4/8) and 12:00 noon on Friday (4/10) to pack donated food into bags.
i. Please respond by reply email if you can do this.
Food Pantry Day
a. We need 4 family teams (assuming 2 people per team) to take food bags out to cars
i. Please respond by reply email if you can do this.
b. We will need 1 family team for traffic control
i. Please respond by reply email if you can do this.

I apologize for the long email – congrats if you made it to the end. Please let me know how you can help.
