REFLECTION
They say you should write - if you are going to write - about what you know. I have written four books, two about coaching children in sports, one a children's chapter book and now, the new one, about a church and a pastor and a community of faith. I think I know about sports and kids, and I feel qualified to write about faith and a church community because I'm part of Christ Church. In fact, That Was You, Wasn't It? is full of Christ Church because the theology in the book is our theology: Love one another, serve one another, follow Him.
Advent and Christmas are perfect times to remind ourselves that what we preach at our church is the simple message of the simple Christ child who came to live among us and show us the simple way to God. As with almost every message God gives his people, that's you and me, the Christ child is the poorest of the poor born to poor parents in a stable. God speaks to us not through the words of great kings and queens, but through the lives of simple people of love.
That's how I would describe Christ Church: a community full of simple people of love.
In this period of busyness and running around, let's commit to stop and reflect daily on the gift God has given us in Jesus. And, let us take the example of how God speaks to us - through the simplest of people and places - to remind us that we too can bring people to God through the simplest of words, gestures, actions. Love extravagantly, unconditionally, perfectly. When we do that the Christ child is born again, over and over and over.
See you Sunday,
